Moving from Wix to WordPress
Wix blog posts cannot be exported to other platforms, so posts and pages are copied across and checked one by one. CMS collections export to CSV. On WordPress, old addresses are mapped to the new WordPress pages with permanent redirects.
How we run the move
List every page, product, form and integration on the old site, including the ones nobody has opened in a while.
Map each old address to its new page before anything is switched over.
Build and check the new WordPress site on a private link, then switch over with redirects in place.
Check Search Console and the busiest pages in the weeks after the switch.
Running the site on WordPress
Runs on hosting you choose, which needs PHP, a MySQL or MariaDB database and HTTPS.
Most features come from plugins in the WordPress.org directory.
Migration plan
Moving from Wix to WordPress
What moves across, and how
| Item | Approach |
|---|---|
| Pages and blog posts | Wix blog posts cannot be exported to other platforms, so posts and pages are copied across and checked one by one. CMS collections export to CSV. Content is rebuilt as WordPress pages and posts, with a WordPress-format export used where the old platform provides one. |
| Images and files | Downloaded from the old site, uploaded again and relinked in the content. |
| Page addresses | Old addresses are mapped to the new WordPress pages with permanent redirects. |
| Page titles and descriptions | Carried across page by page so search results keep showing accurate titles and summaries. |
| Forms and integrations | Rebuilt on the new platform and tested end to end, including where each submission is delivered. |
Risks we plan for
| Risk | How we handle it |
|---|---|
| Search rankings move after the switch. | Map every old address to its new page with permanent redirects, as Google's site move guidance describes. |
| Wix blog posts do not export to another platform. | Allow time to copy and check each post, and keep the Wix site live until the new one is checked. |
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Will we lose our Google rankings moving from Wix to WordPress?
Some movement is normal after any site move. Google's site move guidance centres on mapping every old address to its new page with permanent redirects, which is the main safeguard.[1]
What can we take out of Wix?
Wix blog posts cannot be exported to other platforms, so posts and pages are copied across and checked one by one. CMS collections export to CSV.[2][3]
Do you handle Wix to WordPress moves?
Yes. WordPress is one of the platforms we build on, and we recommend it when it suits the jobs your site has to do. If another platform fits better, we say so. We plan the move from Wix and say plainly if anything cannot be carried across.
